Jay-az´uh-ni´uh; Heb., “Yah[weh] hears”

1 The son of Maacathi, or the Maacathite who remained with Gedaliah, the governor of Judah, after the destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonians (2Kgs 25:23; Jer 40:8). 2 The son of Jeremiah (not the prophet) who was a Rechabite whose religious principles were tested by the prophet Jeremiah (Jer 35:3). 3 The son of Shaphan; he appears in Ezekiel’s vision of the idolatrous elders in the Temple (Ezek 8:11). 4 The son of Azzur; one of the twenty-five evil leaders in another of Ezekiel’s visions (Ezek 11:1).
